Sometimes the biggest challenge to get treated for your foot pain is getting up the courage to walk through the doors and meet with a podiatrist. As soon as you set foot in the office at Adler Footcare you can rest at ease knowing you will be well taken care of by a New York podiatrist who is knowledgeable, personable, and ready to help you manage and then treat your foot pain. Dr. Adler discusses a typical visit in an interview below.
Excerpt from “Living Better with Laura Smith” on 77 WABC:
LAURA: Take us through a typical visit. What happens?
DR. ADLER: Basically we have two goals: Number one we want to find out what the cause of the problem is which we’ll do through testing. Second and just as important is to get rid of the foot pain as quickly as we possibly can, and we use physical therapy modalities. We talked about the cutting edge laser. We also have many other modalities that we use in the office and we give physical therapy to a lot of our patients.
Basically what we like to be doing is getting your pain from a 10 to a 1. I always talk with my patients about that. Even though there is a structural problem we like to put you in a state of suspended animation and get all your pain gone. When you have a situation where a painful foot needs structural correction and surgery the pain that is there releases toxins, which affect the body’s ability to heal. We don’t want that. We want a pain free foot that we can then correct.
LAURA: So as you’re diagnosing and getting tests run you’re also managing their pain during this time. You don’t have to wait until the surgery is taking place in four weeks. You get immediate relief. Is that what you’re saying?
DR. ADLER: Everybody gets better. Everybody’s foot pain is at a very low level when I look at the notes we do before surgery. Because we have a Joint Commission Certified operating room we have specific forms to fill out for patients to tell us what the level of their pain is. Most patients we’re operating on are in the 3, 2, or 1 range. They didn’t come to us like that, we brought them down from there. And that is a big thing because pain is debilitating, it’s frightening and it effects your life. We don’t want that. We want to be able to figure out what’s going on, while you’re feeling better. We don’t want you to wait. This is New York. We want everything done in a New York minute! Basically, a quick finger snap pain relief. We can do that.
